Hey there!

We’ve put together some of the questions people ask us the most.

Got something else on your mind or need more info about what’s here?

Just hit us up on Facebook, WhatsApp, or Insta using the links below or at the bottom of the page.

Thinking About Joining the Choir?

It’s easy! Just swing by one of our rehearsals and check it out.

Got questions? Hit us up using the contact info at the top or bottom of the page. Let’s have a chat and sort it out for you!

No better time to jump in than right now!

Who Can Join?

If you’re a guy who loves to sing, is keen to learn, and up for making new mates, you’re in!

Most importantly, it’s all about having fun! “Fun first, always!”

Do I Need to Live Near Biddulph?
Not at all. While a lot of us are from Biddulph, we’ve got members from nearby towns and even further away.

We rehearse at Biddulph Town Hall (ST8 6AR),

which is about a half-hour drive for most folks in East Cheshire and North Staffordshire.

Oh, and one guy even drives from Sheffield!

When and Where Do You Practice?
Every Wednesday, 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Biddulph Town Hall.

How Long Are Rehearsals?
Two hours, give or take.

Is Parking a Problem?
Not at all!

There’s parking at B&M and Sainsbury’s right across the road, plus disabled parking closer to the hall.

Can I Just Show Up to a Rehearsal?
Absolutely! Prospective members are welcome to come and hang out.

No pressure—sit back, watch, and see if it’s your vibe.

Is There a Probationary Period?
Nope!

Once you and the conductor think you’re ready, you’re good to rock your first concert.

Do I Have to Audition?
No auditions here!

There might be a quick voice range check to find the best fit for you, but that’s it.

And hey, your range might change as you sing more!

Will I Be Thrown Onstage Right Away?
Not at all. You’ll only join a concert when you and the musical director feel you’re ready.

Everyone’s timeline is different.

Do I Need to Be at Every Rehearsal?
Life happens, we get it.

Regular attendance is super important for learning and rehearsing with your new mates,

but if you miss a session here or there, no worries.

Just give us a heads-up if you can’t make it.

What If I Have to Skip a Rehearsal?

Just let someone in the choir know.

If we don’t hear from you for a couple of weeks, we’ll check in to make sure you’re doing okay.

What kind of music do we sing?

We mix it up! You’ll hear some classic hymns, traditional male voice choir tunes, and even a few modern songs everyone knows and loves. We’re working on growing our playlist to have something for everyone,

but hey, perfecting new songs takes a bit of time!

At the end of the day, we just want to sing music that people of all ages will enjoy.

Do I Need to Buy Music?
Not at all—music is provided by the choir.

Do I Need to Read Music?
Definitely not!

Most of us don’t. What matters is being willing to practice, learn the songs, and hold a note.

Easy as that!

Do I Have to Practice at Home?
It’s a good idea! Practice in the shower, in the car, or with a backing track and sheet music.

It’ll help you keep up, especially if you miss a rehearsal.

Some members even get together to practice, so feel free to join them!

Do You Offer Training?
Yep! You’ll get paired with a buddy who’ll help you with the basics, like reading music and singing properly.

We’re also working on offering official training in the future, so stay tuned!

Do I Have to Be at Every Concert?
Not necessarily. Life throws curveballs, like holidays (boo!),

.but we do expect members to attend whenever they can.

We’ll give you a handy calendar of events so you can plan ahead.

Do I Need to Buy My Own Uniform?
Nope! We’ll provide the jacket, tie.

You might need to sort out other bits like trousers and shoes, though.

Sometimes there are optional extra polos for special events, but buying them is totally up to you.

What’s the Concert Dress Code?
Our current uniform includes:

Blazer

White Shirt

Tie

Black Trousers

Black Shoes

We do review it from time to time and try to go with what the choir feels.

We are always open to suggestions.

Do I Need to Sell Tickets?
If you can give us a hand spreading the word and encouraging ticket sales, that’s awesome!

Sharing stuff on social media or telling your mates helps a ton.

How Many Concerts Do You Have Each Year?
It varies, but we usually do about a dozen concerts annually.

Do I Have to Sing Solo?
Solo singing isn’t a thing for us right now.

If that ever changes, it’ll be up to you and the conductor to decide.

Do You Sing from Memory?
Yep, we sing from memory during concerts, and yeah, it can be a bit scary at first.

But no worries—you’ll only perform live when you’ve got the songs down and feel ready.

For rehearsals, you’ll have the music in front of you to learn from.

Do You Go on Tour?
We sure do! We try to visit a different choir every year and perform in stunning locations—think cathedrals and festivals.

This year, we’re even heading to Malta!

Is Transport Provided for Concerts?
We arrange transport for faraway gigs, and for nearby ones, carpooling is encouraged.

It’s a great excuse to catch up with fellow members!

What’s the Membership Fee?
It’s £100 a year, which covers a ton—music, the musical director, accompanists, room hire, uniforms, and more.

This gets reviewed each year, so we keep it fair.

What Other Costs Are There?
Outside of the membership fee, it’s mainly travel to rehearsals and gigs and maybe the odd pint after a concert or rehearsal

We call it “The Afterglow.” Cheers to that!
